What is the core purpose of your blog?

What is the core purpose of your blog?

So we have done a lot of work up until this point, however, to influence someone to invest in your blogs products and services we need to know what is your blog’s core purpose. Your blog needs a purpose because if it’s just random information then it will be confusing to the reader and no one will be influenced into investing in your service or products. If you’re confused so will your audience.

So let’s define your blogs purpose

By defining your purpose, you will be able to tell anyone in a few words what your blog is about clearly and concisely. What does your blog stand for or what do you want your blog to be known for. It’s basically the whole reason why you are blogging. It makes sure that you don’t blog randomly but stick to a topic because its very easy to go off topic. It means that everyone can understand what you are blogging about, they will follow you, believe in you and invest in what you have to offer.

Examples of core purposes are:-

  • If you have a blog about dogs, your core purpose could be to teach dog owners how to train their dogs.
  • If you blog about garden herbs your core purpose could be how to make herbal tablets from home grown herbs.
  • If you blog about auditing a business your core purpose could be to show auditors various software and techniques that would be beneficial to them.
  • If you blog about depression your core purpose could be to change habits that create lifelong happiness.

Your Objectives

You need to think of at least 3 to 7 objectives that help you to achieve your blogs core purpose.

Let’s start with the meaning of an Objective..

“a thing aimed at or sought; a goal.”

So what are your aims or goals for your blog? This is a huge question, and you really need to define your objectives in a positive way. You need to believe that what you want to achieve is achievable. You are reading this book because you have seen for yourself that blogs can open many doors. Your blog can be as big or as small as the work and investment that you put into it.

Based on the 4 purposes above below are example objectives:-

If you have a blog about dogs, your core purpose could be to teach dog owners how to train their dogs. However, your objectives could be to:

a. Create training videos with my dog
b. Increase knowledge about dog training
c. Review training products that help dog owners

If you blog about garden herbs your core purpose could be how to make herbal tablets from home grown herbs. Your objectives could be to:

a. Help people learn about plants that cure
b. Start a herbal tablets Facebook group sharing ideas

If you blog about auditing a business your core purpose could be to show auditors various software and techniques. Your objectives could be to:

If you blog about depression your core purpose could be to change habits and create lifelong happiness Your objectives could be to:

a. Create a step by step guide to happiness coaching corse
b. Write articles in psychology magazines
c. Start a kick depression weekly meeting

You can see that when you have a purpose and objectives for your blog, you start to think about what content you need to achieve these objectives. You can really break down each objective into smaller parts. Before you know it you have so much to write about.

Its all in the Words

Now I need you to define your blog in 3 – 5 specific words that embody your niche. They can be what your blog does, what feelings your blog evokes, benefits, problem solved, etc. For example, if you blog about make-up for teenagers your words could be:-

Makeup
Teenagers
Cheap
Celebrity
looks

These words will help you when it comes to starting your keyword research.

The Right Feel?

How do you want people to feel when they read your blog, videos, social networks? Knowing the answer to this question will help you to set the tone and the look to your blog. Do you want your readers to feel empowered, excited, energised, motivated, etc. Everything that you write, say or do about your blog you need to make sure that the emotions are consistent. If you say that you want to encourage motivation, ensure that it comes across in your writing. If at the end neither you nor your readers feel motivated then you will need to rewrite your post until you get it right.
